Energy-efficient cooking

Did you know you can save both time and money by changing the way you cook? With energy prices rising, we reveal the cost saving you could make by air frying your food, along with some tips to keep your bills low.

Does an air fryer use more electricity than an oven?

You can save up to 75% on your energy bill with Ninja Air Fryers***

Wondering if it’s cheaper to cook in an air fryer than an oven? The amount of energy used to cook at home will depend on the appliance, foods and the functions selected.

For example, large ovens may be able to cook bigger foods, cook more at once and be well-insulated, while newer appliances may have a broader range of functions and features for reduced cook times.

However, their size may mean more energy is required to get them to temperature and more energy could be lost if access to the food is needed during cooking.

Plug-in meters allow you to measure the energy consumption of appliances with accessible sockets. Careful use of domestic smart meters may allow you to approximate your oven’s energy use.

ENERGY SAVING TIPS

Turn appliances off when not in use

Some appliances may have a standby mode, but this can still use a small amount of energy. To ensure no electricity is being used, turn appliances off at the plug.

Choose an appropriate appliance each time

For maximum efficiency, make sure you select the right appliance for the food type, portion size and length of cooking time needed. For example, if you have a small air fryer or countertop cooker, there’s no need to heat up your whole oven to cook a single portion.

Defrost food before cooking

Defrosting food before cooking can reduce the amount of energy and time required to cook it, as cooking from frozen tends to take longer – although this may not be suitable for all food types, so check packaging carefully.
